Cascais is one of the best places in Portugal for walking tours, you can choose to walk around Cascais, on the way to Guincho or on the way to Sintra.
Lots of young people from Cascais love to explore Sintra on foot, our mountain that is called “Monte da Lua” that means Moon´s Mountain. My advice is don´t go alone, always take a flashlight and a mobile phone with you. A fascinating walk I can assure you!
Due to it’s importance, to the fauna and flora species, the palaces and places, Sintra “Monte da Lua” is guarded and protected all time by police G.N.R. (Guarda Nacional Republicana – Portuguese National Republican Guard) that can be seen by car, suv or horses.
Here is a book where you can find areas for walking in Cascais and Sintra, the autor is australian Martin Sirovs, he lives in Cascais…
“The book contains 33 maps. Of these, 25 are maps showing the author’s favourite areas for walking, with 34 suggested walks totalling 249 km. Each of these maps is followed by photos and text dealing with points of interest. Also included are 8 maps showing 14 “official” sign-posted walks (114 km) (…)“.
Thanks Martin!
