According to tradition the name of this beach was originated in the apples that fell into the water and were carried by the Ribeira de Colares which comes flowing into this beach.

Has a long sandy beach that allows he  practice of beach sports. Is very popular with water sports enthusiasts, such as bodyboarding and surfing.

With good access and a picturesque tram that descends across the valley from the town of Sintra to the beach.

Along the beach there are several trading houses, restaurants, cafes and bars and a saltwater pool.
