It is the most important religious building in the city of Lisbon.

Its silhouette stands out in the urban landscape to the beholder Lisbon from the various sights or for those arriving by boat. At its border you can find other churches of related with the medieval port: Sto. Antonio Magdalena, Conceição Velha.

Lies near the gates of the Old City walls and the edge of the road that goes up to the Castle. It is a fortress church built in late Romanesque style with several brands of construction and reconstruction campaigns: Gothic, Renaissance, Mannerist, Baroque, Pombal, not to mention more recent revivals.
